Tasting - La Fiera Montepulciano D'Abruzzo

La Fiera Montepulciano D'Abruzzo tasted on 1/25/14 at the Gourmet Pantry
Name: La Fiera
Variety: Montepulciano
Region: Abruzzi
Country: Italy
Year: 2012
Price: $8.99

Winery review: La Fiera Montepulciano D'Abruzzo is a full-bodied red wine with violet highlights and a fruity bouquet. The palate boasts dark berry fruit and is best paired with tomato-based pastas, pizza, and roasted poultry.

My review: The nose smelled of blackberry jam and roses and tasted slightly fruity, like blackberry jam. The finish was more savory with a hint of clove spice on the finish. This wine was more bland than other Montepulciano I have tasted which I think is due to the fact that most Montepulciano is blended with bolder grapes to accentuate the flavor. For the price, this would be a good wine to take to a dinner party where other reds may be too strong for some.
